Analysis of the match Real Madrid Eintracht Frankfurt

A title is at stake as well as a place in the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Merengues have had an impressive but almost miraculous run in the Champions League, beating PSG, Chelsea, City and Liverpool. Not to mention the Spanish SuperCup win over Bilbao last January. With objectives as high as last year, the Merengues officially start their season with this European SuperCup final, which they have won 4 times in their history.

Karim Benzema's side were involved in a series of friendlies this summer, losing the Clasico to Barcelona (0-1) before being held by Club America (2-2). Finally, they beat Juventus (2-0) to close out their pre-season.

Frankfurt owes its presence in this European SuperCup to the Europa League, which it won last season for the second time in its history, at the expense of Rangers of Glasgow (victory on penalties). Eintracht, who beat Barça and West Ham on their way to the title, had also left the Bundesliga behind, finishing in an average 11th place, 10 points behind the European spots.

Meanwhile, the Germans will be seeded in the Champions League next season for their first appearance in the competition since the format was renewed. They had an excellent pre-season friendly with a 3-1 win over Torino,

Real Madrid Eintracht Frankfurt squad

Real Madrid have not moved much this summer, apart from the reinforcements in specific positions with the arrival of Aurelien Tchouameni in midfield (Monaco, 100 million) and Antonio Rüdiger in defence (Chelsea, free). In the other direction, some undesirables have had to leave the Merengues.

This is the case of Luka Jovic (Fiorentina) and the previously loaned Kubo (Real Sociedad) and Borja Mayoral (Getafe). Bale (Los Angeles FC), Isco (Sevilla) and Marcelo have also jumped ship for the European champions. The White House is expected to be fully booked for this first match.

The Frankfurt squad has changed quite a bit, with the arrivals of former Nantes striker Randal Kolo Muani (who scored against Bayern) and Mario Götze (PSV), as well as Lucas Alario (Bayern Leverkusen), who scored in both the friendly and the cup, and defenders Onguene (Salzburg), Buta (Antwerp) and Smolcic (Rijeka). Onguéné and Buta were absent from the first two games and are doubtful. Smolcic, who was suspended this weekend, should be back. Note the loss this summer of the often injured Ragnar Ache (Greuther Furth), of defender Martin Hinteregger (professional retirement), as well as of the interesting da Costa (Mainz). Also departures of defender Durm (Kaiserslautern), midfielder Barkok (Mainz),

Because of their record, Real Madrid are favourites for this match. Even if the German team's capabilities should not be underestimated, Ancelotti's team should win, as they are aiming for a five-peat this season and will also be participating in the Club World Cup.

Eintracht had a disastrous start to their Bundesliga campaign on Friday night. The Eagles were completely out of their depth defensively and could concede too many goals to hope for victory in this match, despite their undeniable offensive quality.
